Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket Thilanga Sumathipala says three year plan has been implemented to develop cricket in Sri Lanka. The amount paid to the national players at an international match win has also been increased.

Bangladesh misses opportunity to re-write Test cricket history

Bangladesh missed an opportunity to re-write Test cricket history as they were beaten by 22 runs in the 1st Test against England played at Chittagong. Batting first after winning the toss England scored 293 runs all out in their 1st innings. In reply Bangladeshis were only able to score 248 runs all out in their 1st innings. Then England set
a target of 286 runs for Bangladesh after scoring 240 runs all out in their 2nd innings thanks to a great knock by Ben Stokes who scored 85 runs.

Bangladeshis were within the victory margin on the final day of the match as they only required 33 runs for victory although they were 8 wickets down. Ben Stokes who was in the action again by taking the rest of the wickets in two consecutive balls, his 5th and 6th wicket of the match respectively. Eventually he was named as the man of the match. Debutant Sabbir Rahaman's attempt to win the match went in vain as he remained unbeaten on 64. Had the Bangladesh won the match they would have become the youngest Test playing nation to beat England.

Western Province became the champion of the all island school sports festival


The Western Province became the champion of the all island school sports festival with 855 points. The Central province became the runner up with 815. Sabaragamuwa province became the 3rd place. 14 new record were set up at this sports festival which was held in Bogambara grounds in Kandy for the last five days.

Sri Lanka A team wins the 1st unofficial Test against West Indies A

Sri Lanka A has won the 1st unofficial Test against West Indies A played at R. Premadasa stadium in Colombo by 7 wickets. The Windies who won the toss and elected to bat first scored 276 runs all out for their 1st innings. In reply Sri Lanka scored 386 runs all out thanks to a fine century by skipper Dimuth Karunarathne who made 131. The West Indies were bowled out for 175 runs in their
2nd innings earlier today. Sri Lankan 'A' team reached the winning target of 67 runs loosing just 3 wickets.

Sri Lanka A now leads the 3-match series 1-nil.

Pakistan has been barred from the Kabaddi World Cup in India.

The International Kabaddi Federation said that this is not the right time to engage with Pakistan.

Sri Lanka set for pink ball debut


Pink-ball cricket will mark its debut in Sri Lanka when the first unofficial Test between Sri Lanka A and West Indies A commences at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo today. Sri Lanka currently use the Australian Kookaburra ball in their domestic tournaments.
