Sri Lanka won the 1st T20 of the Nidahas trophy

Sri Lanka won the first T20 match of the Nidahas Trophy Triangular Tournament, at the R.Premadasa stadium yesterday. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to field. Batting first, India scored 174 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. In reply Sri Lanka scored 175 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 18.3 overs. Kusal Janith Perera who scored 66 runs was declared the man of the match.

Selections for the National Football Reserve underway

Selections for the National Football Reserve are being conducted at the Beddagana Football Grounds, these days. Under the first stage, 17 players have been selected. Selections of the 2nd stage are due to be completed today. The opportunities available for many more sports clubs and football leagues to appear for selections from the 9th to the 12th of this month. The final reserves will be named on the 24th of this month. Sri Lanka Football Federation has announced that 60 players will be selected for national reserves under batches 'A' and 'B'.

Neymar has undergone a "successful" operation

Paris St-Germain forward Neymar has undergone a "successful" operation after fracturing a metatarsal and spraining an ankle during Sunday's Ligue 1 victory over Marseille. A club statement said Neymar will begin rehabilitation before being "assessed in six weeks' time". Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said the 26-year-old is believed to be out for up to three months. He expects Neymar to be fit in time for the World Cup in June. But the £200m world record signing will miss the rest of PSG's season.

'Guwan Hamuda Paapedi Sawariya 2018' begins today

The Sri Lanka Air Force celebrates its 67th Anniversary today. As a part of its 'Air Force Day' celebrations, the SLAF will hold its annual cycling race, 'Guwan Hamuda Paapedi Sawariya 2018', in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka. The Men's race will commence today from the Air Force Headquarters in Colombo. Competitors have to cover a distance of 445 kilometers passing through Puttalam, Hingurakgoda, Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa, before reaching the finish line in front of the Youth Centre in Ampara.

Roger Federer named World Sportsman of the Year 2017

Twenty-time tennis grand slam champion Roger Federer has won the 2017 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year and Comeback of the Year awards. The 36-year-old Swiss won the Australian Open and Wimbledon titles in 2017 after seven years without a major. "I didn't believe I would ever come back to this level," said Federer. "The year I had was something else." Serena Williams took the World Sportswoman of the Year award after winning her 23rd grand slam in 2017. "This means the world to me," added world number one Federer. "The comebacks are always extremely emotional. Last year was a dream come true." (BBC)

In sports, Norway wins the highest number of medals at the Winter Olympics.

Norway topped the medal table as Marit Bjorgen won gold in the women's cross-country skiing 30km mass start classic, the final event of the Winter Olympics. Norway finished with 14 golds, the same as Germany, but won a record 39 medals overall, eight more than the Germans.

In sports - Sri Lanka wins the T-20 series against Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 75 runs in the second T-20 game in Sylhet to claim the series two-nil. After being invited to bat first, Sri Lanka made 210 for four wickets. Openers Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilake shared a 98-run stand in 11 overs. Mendis top scored with 70 while Gunathilake made 42 and Thisara Perera contributed 31 runs.

The 2nd and final T-20 match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be played today

 

The 2nd and final T-20 match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be played today.  Sri Lanka won the first T-20 match between the two teams. Sri Lanka also won the first test match played against Bangladesh.  today's match will begin at 4.30 PM local time

The first Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh ends in a draw

 

The first Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh ended in a draw in Chittagong today. When the game was called off, Bangladesh were 307 for five wickets in their second innings. Mominul Haque became the first Bangladeshi batsman to score centuries in each innings of a test match. Liton Das also made 94. In bowling, Rangana Herath captured two wickets for 80 runs. Sri Lanka declared their first innings at 713 for nine, in reply to Bangladesh's first essay of 513.

Today is the final day of the first test against Bangladesh

 

Today is the 5th and last day of the 1st test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka being played in Chittagong. Sri Lanka declared the innings after 713 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.  Bangladesh scored 81 runs for 3 wickets at the end of the day at their 2nd innings at the close of play yesterday. Bangladesh scored 513 runs for all out in their 1st innings.
