The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are "very close" to agreeing on a deal to play two Major League Baseball regular season games in London in June 2019. The venue would be London Stadium, which is home to Premier League football club: 'West Ham United'. Details are still to be agreed, but if the fixtures take place, they would be the first Major League Baseball Games hosted in Europe.


India has qualified into the finals of the Nidahas trophy T20 tournament.

India beat Bangladesh by 17 runs in another T20 match played last night at the R. Premadasa stadium. India batted first and made 176 for 3 in 20 overs. In Reply Bangladesh managed to score only 159 for 6 in 20 overs. Incidentally, this is the first match in the series where the team batting second lost the match. With this win, India has qualified into the finals.

Sri Lanka won the first T20 match of the Nidahas Trophy Triangular Tournament, at the R.Premadasa stadium yesterday. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to field. Batting first, India scored 174 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. In reply Sri Lanka scored 175 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 18.3 overs. Kusal Janith Perera who scored 66 runs was declared the man of the match.

Selections for the National Football Reserve underway

Selections for the National Football Reserve are being conducted at the Beddagana Football Grounds, these days. Under the first stage, 17 players have been selected. Selections of the 2nd stage are due to be completed today. The opportunities available for many more sports clubs and football leagues to appear for selections from the 9th to the 12th of this month. The final reserves will be named on the 24th of this month. Sri Lanka Football Federation has announced that 60 players will be selected for national reserves under batches 'A' and 'B'.

Neymar has undergone a "successful" operation

As a part of its 'Air Force Day' celebrations, the SLAF will hold its annual cycling race, 'Guwan Hamuda Paapedi Sawariya 2018', in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka. The Men's race will commence today from the Air Force Headquarters in Colombo. Competitors have to cover a distance of 445 kilometers passing through Puttalam, Hingurakgoda, Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa, before reaching the finish line in front of the Youth Centre in Ampara.

Norway topped the medal table as Marit Bjorgen won gold in the women's cross-country skiing 30km mass start classic, the final event of the Winter Olympics. Norway finished with 14 golds, the same as Germany, but won a record 39 medals overall, eight more than the Germans.
