A petition has been filed with the Court of Appeals requesting the Court to issue a Writ of Quo Warranto preventing Ranil Wickremesinghe from being a Member of Parliament. The case has been filed by the Co-President of 'Women for Justice' and Colombo Municipal Council Member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna: Sharmila Gonawala.

She has cited as respondents, Former Prime Minister: Ranil Wickremasinghe, General Secretary of the UNP: Parliamentarian Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, and Secretary General of Parliament: Dhammika Dissanayake.

The petition states, Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe functions as a shareholder of Lake House Printers & Publishers, and thereby while holding a Parliamentary seat has entered into an agreement with a state entity with the intention of earning personal profits.
