Discussions underway to resolve the problems faced by postal workers

Secretary to the Ministry of Posts: R.M.D.B. Meegasmulla says, at this juncture, when the government is in the process of solving the problems faced by postal workers, it is totally unacceptable for the postal service to resort to trade union action. Speaking at a media briefing held in Colombo today he noted, a cabinet paper has been tabled, to address the issues put forward by the trade unions.

He requested all postal workers to report to work to prevent inconvenience to the public, and protect the postal service.

Joining in the media briefing, Post Master General Rohana Abeyrathne said, due to the trade union action underway, postal activities have come to a standstill. Overseas post has also been severely affected. He highlighted, such a situation is not healthy for the Department of Posts and the country. He added, we should not let the international reputation of the Sri Lanka Postal Service be tarnished.
