Steps to be taken to pay salaries and allowances that are in arrears for employees of the Fisheries Corporation, within the next month.

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says, steps will be taken to pay salaries and allowances that are in arrears for employees of the Fisheries Corporation, within the next month. A sum of 168 million rupees will be set aside for this purpose. The Minister asserts, the Fisheries Corporation has now become a profit making entity.

The Minister pointed out, the Corporation has taken measures to provide employees with bonuses for the first time, during the Sinhala Avurudu Season. The Ceylon Fisheries Corporation, a government-owned institution, which was scheduled to be closed down due to mismanagement during the previous government, is currently earning profits under a new management.

Accordingly, the Corporation was able to earn a profit of 36 million rupees for the first time, last year. The state-owned corporation is currently undergoing restructuring, and functioning smoothly under an orderly programme.
