Maha Nayake of Malawathu Chapter says establishing ethnocentric schools is the major cause for the clashes among communities.

Maha Nayake of Malawathu Chapter Most Venerable Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thero says that a major cause for the clashes among Sinhala Muslim communities in Kandy area is the establishment of separate schools for each ethnic group. Earlier Sinhala Tamil and Muslim students studied in the same school together. However, separate schools for these communities started later. The Thero said that when the children of all communities study together in one place from the childhood a strong relationship develops among them. The Thero revealed these facts when Minister Faizer Mustapha met the Thero at the Malwatta Temple yesterday. The Thero further said that he does not tolerate such clashes and each community should have the right to practice their religion and the culture.

Minister Faizer Mustapha said that the majority of Muslim community never demand a part of the country. However, extremist groups are living in among not only Muslims but also among the other communities as well.
