Japan and Sri Lanka leaders have pledged to further strengthen the bilateral relations.


Japan and Sri Lanka leaders have pledged to further strengthen the bilateral relations. Japanese Prime minister Shinsho Abe says that Japan will provide development aid to Sri Lanka as much as possible. He made this remark when visiting president Maithripala Sirisena met him for official talks last evening.
The Japanese prime minister said that it will further extend their support to develop Colombo and Trincomalee harbours. It will also continue the support to develop infrastructure facilities in Sri Lanka. Japanese government is to assist in power generating programmes in the island. The Japanese leader pledged special technical expertise for Sri Lanka's development programmes.
President Maithripala Sirisena commended the Japanese government and the people for the cooperation given in many fields to accelerate development. The president also pointed out the need to start Japanese investments in the private sector as well. The two leaders also signed a new agreement to enhance health services in the two countries.
