The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency visits Sri Lanka.

Yukiya Amano, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency visits Sri Lanka on the 14th of March, for a one day official visit on an invitation extended by the Government.

The International Atomic Energy Agency is an independent inter-governmental, science and technology based organization, established in 1957 in the United Nations family. It serves as the global focal point for nuclear co-operation and assists its member states in planning and using nuclear science and technology for various peaceful purposes.

Sri Lanka is a founding member state of the agency and receives technical assistance through its Technical Cooperation programme, in order to develop nuclear science and technology in the country.

During his stay in Sri Lanka, Mr Amano will visit the National Center for Non Destructive Testing and the Sri Lanka Gamma Center of the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board.  These are two scientific centers established in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency. He will also visit the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Regulatory Council.
