Leaders of India and Sri Lanka have pledged their commitment to take forward bilateral relations stronger. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Maithripala Sirisena on the sidelines of the International Solar Alliance Summit in New Delhi yesterday. On the occasion, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of a permanent programme to further the economic ties between the two countries.

President Sirisena also had a meeting with the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme Erik Solheim and discussed environmental conservation, climate change and marine pollution among other matters. He explained the measures taken by Sri Lanka for environmental conservation such as the minimizing of the use of plastics. The UN Environment Programme Chief commended Sri Lanka for its achievements in this regard
