Leaders of Muslim organizations extended their fullest support to President Maithripala Sirisena to establish a peaceful atmosphere, conducive for all Sri Lankans to live in peace and harmony. These sentiments were expressed during a meeting hosted by the President, with members of Muslim organizations, this morning.

The President pointed out that only a small group of extremist elements are responsible for such riotous acts. He explained to these representatives all necessary steps have been taken to implement the law against those responsible for the violence.

The representatives urged the president not to allow the social media outlets to arouse ethnic animosity through false propaganda.

The representatives expressed their deep concern over the troubled incidents that occurred in several places in the Kandy District and asked President Sirisena to take every possible step to prevent such clashes. They expressed confidence that only President Sirisena could implement a long term solution in order to ensure such clashes do not occur over and over again and that a lasting solution in this regard can be arrived at, during the tenure of the President.
