A sum of 7000 million rupees has been allocated to provide compensation for the farmers affected by the draught condition.

The Disaster Management Center says that a sum of 7000 million rupees has been allocated to provide compensation for the farmers affected by the draught condition. Accordingly, monthly allowance of 5000 rupees will be provided to each affected family. Four installment payments have been made so far. The Director of Disaster management Center Chaminda Pathiraja said that the fifth installment will be made in near future. 120,000 families are eligible to receive these compensations. The recent draught condition has affected 17 districts of the island. A survey is been conducted to find the number of farmer families affected at divisional secretariat and district levels. Meanwhile, the 115,000 families affected due to landslide and flood disaster were compensated last year.
