President Maithripala Sirisena says the reason for the increase in poverty in the country is due to the large scale fraud and corruption that was practiced by politicians state officials and various corrupt businessmen, in every government that came into power in the past. He points out that the citizens elected him as the head of state to eradicate fraud and corruption and create a clean political movement. He expressed these views participating at a public rally held in Medirigiriya, yesterday. The President also called to mind that during the period between 2008 and 2016 irrespective of party differences billions of funds had been subjected to theft. He observed that there is no shortage of intellectuals in the country. In the same way there is no shortage of resources. The only obstacle that has thrown a spanner in the path of development has been the formidable errors committed by politicians.
