The expulsion of the student of the Kekirawa Dotugama Maha Vidyalaya under false allegations of pregnancy declared as a violation of fundamental rights.

The Human Rights Council of Sri Lanka declares that the expulsion of the student of the Kekirawa Dotugama Maha Vidyalaya under false allegations of pregnancy is a violation of fundamental rights. The girl had apparently vomited due to being on an empty stomach. Since there was to be a Children’s Day celebration in the school premises on the said day, the students were informed that lunch will be provided. Therefore, the child had skipped breakfast. She was unreasonably expelled from school on suspicion of being pregnant.

Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Council Saliya Peiris states that a number of guidelines pertaining to this incident and to the Right of Education have been submitted to the government.
