The President laid the foundation stone for the renal disease hospital in Polonnaruwa.

President Maithripala Sirisena laid the foundation stone for the renal disease hospital in Polonnaruwa this morning. This is considered as the largest hospital for kidney patients in the South Asian region. China has granted a sum of 1200 million rupees for the project.

The hospital consists of 200 beds for inmate patients and 100 beds at the dialysis unit. The hospital will provide all clinical and technical facilities and counselling services for the patients in the north central and eastern provinces.

Participating in this ceremony several members of the families that have been affected by the disease praised the President and the government for constructing such a modern and essential hospital in Polonnaruwa area. They say that they will be able to get treatment for their affected family members from this hospital once it is completed. They said that now they have to travel to Colombo and Anuradhapura for treatments.
