The low pressure area in the South west Bay of Bengal sea area is moving further away from Sri Lanka. The Met Department says therefore its effect for the country is expected to be lessened. This system is located nearly 850 kilometres to the Northeast of Trincomalee. It is likely to develop in to a depression during next 6 hours and move towards north-northwestward direction in the Bay of Bengal sea area. Due the location of the system, the sea areas 300 kilometres off the north-eastern and eastern coasts will be very rough with wind speed gusting up to 80-100 kilometres per hour. Heavy showers can also be expected in the above sea area.

The sea area off the coast extending from Hambantota to Kankasanthurai via Trincomalee can be fairly rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 50 - 60 kilometres per hour. Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
