The President says the government will introduce a more scientific and planned garbage management system within next few months.

President Maithripala Sirisena says that within next few months the government will introduce a more scientific and planned garbage management system suitable to the country. Any previous governments did not possess such a comprehensive garbage management system. The president pointed out that because of this, many protests was took place. Certain section of politicians supported these protests. He was addressing a workshop on garbage management at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo. He further said the country did not possess a scientific method of garbage management. This program was held to prepare a Provincial governments' plan to workout a proper and scientific plan in garbage management. 335 officials from all the provincial government institutions took part in this program.

The president explained that if the de-limitation works of the provincial electorates had been done according to the new Provincial Government Act, the elections could have been carried out during the previous year. However, necessary amendments will be produced before the parliament as soon as possible. By January or February new chairmen, mayors and public representatives to the local bodies will be appointed. The disbursement of local bodies did not take place. What happened was the deadline of prevalence expiring.

Secretaries, commissioners and some other officials conducted their duties in proper manner, but some officials were not so. Complains have been received a certain number of them. Steps will be taken to rectify them. When clearing haphazardly done garbage disposal a number of racketeers interfered to the process. They made unnecessary problems in processing garbage disposal. This was proved when the garbage dump in Meethotamulla collapsed and when steps were taken to place them in alternative places. President emphasized the necessity of discharging their duties as vested upon local government commissioners, secretaries and other officials. The president further said that under the present government officials can discharge their duties without any interference or problem and rightfully and methodically. Minister Faizer Mustafa also spoke.
