A number of programs are under to make the country free of alcohol and drugs.

Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe says that the government has implemented a number of successful programs under the presidential concept of to make the country free of alcohol and drugs. The progress review and providing solutions to the identified issues will be done at a meeting under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena on 19th Wednesday in municipal council grounds in Panadura. The program has been conducted in 8 districts successfully. It is implemented covering all the districts of the country. Minister Samarasinghe said that President's practical approach in solving alcohol and drug abuses in the country has received international appreciation. For this reason, president has received a number of international accolades. The director of the drug prevention presidential task force Dr. Samantha Kithalawa-arachchi said that the task force has educated more than 30,000 people in 762 grama niladhari divisions in 14 divisional secretariat divisions in the district. He pointed out committees in district divisional and rural levels have been established, the task force monitoring the workings and the progress of those committees.
