The main objective of the government is to double the export income by 2020 with the support of the GSP plus facility.

Minister Daya Gamage says the main objective of the government is to double the export income by 2020 with the support of the GSP plus facility. The garment sector showed a 50 percent growth when GSP plus facility introduced to the country in 2002. But the European Union banned the GSP plus facility during the time of previous regime due to deteriorating human rights records. However, the present government has taken effective steps to restore GSP plus facility. Minister Gamage made these remarks at a media conference held at UNP headquarters Sirikotha yesterday. Speaking further at this conference Minister said many projects under his Ministry will be implemented within the next few years to promote export sector. Many job opportunities will also be generated from these projects.
