The Families who lost their houses in the Meethotamulla tragedy have been provided with new houses.

The owners of 60 totally damaged houses in Meethotamulla were given houses today under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremeisnghe. Title deeds of the houses were distributed among 30 families who were present at the Progress Review Meeting on providing relief to the Meethotamulla victims in the ministry of Disaster Management. Government has spent 392 million rupees for these houses.

Each family will be given 250,000 rupees to purchase furniture while 10, 000 rupees will be given for transportation of their belongings.

It was also decided to pay a monthly allowance of 50, 000 rupees and the transport allowance of 10, 000 rupees for each family, who will move away from the dangerous zone until they are given full compensation or a permanent house.
