4 agreements have been signed with the Norwegian government to improve fisheries sector. The documents were signed with the presence of Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and a delegation from the Norwegian government. Addressing the gathering Minister Amaraweera said that the fisheries sector will be developed at 3 phases under the new agreements. He pointed out that the Norwegian government has a great deal of technology and knowhow in regard to the fisheries industry. Obtaining their support for surely uplift the country's fisheries sector. The minister said that the Ministry of fisheries has become a profitable venture.
He also highlighted that a national policy will be formulated for the fisheries industry. The Minister observed that Indian fishermen issues is a problem that lasted for more than 30 years. He added that the navy personnel have not done anything wrong in regard to the shooting incident at a Indian fisherman.
