90 citizens who rendered nobel service to the motherland will be honored with national awards today.

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena will confer National Honors on 90 distinguished personalities, who rendered a noble service to the country and its advancement. The Investiture Ceremony of conferring National Honors will be held today at 6.00 p.m. at the Nelum Pokuna Theater. It should be noted that this ceremony is held after 12 years.
The President will present national honors to 88 distinguished Sri Lankans and two non-nationals lauding their individual contributions in many spheres, stated the Secretary to the President P. B. Abeykoon. Late music maestro W.D. Amaradeva is to be posthumously conferred with the highest civilian honor "SriLanka- abhimanaya." Ninety individuals were selected out of 426 applications forwarded for this year's award ceremony.
These awards are bestowed on the most distinguished persons who have made outstanding contributions to the country. Among the recipients of the national honors are artistes, scientists, doctors, singers, actors, journalists, businessmen and sports personnel.
