Many effective measures have been taken to bring down the cost of living of the general public.

 

Minister Rishad Bathiudeen said many effective measures have been taken to bring down the cost of living of the general public. These decisions were taken during a meeting held last week with the participation of the members of cost of living committee. Accordingly, 5000 metric ton rice will be imported in near future. Out of which, 100,000 metric ton rice will be imported from India and another 400,000 metric ton will be brought from Myanmar, Pakistan and Thailand. The necessary instructions have been given to the importing countries through the respective Sri Lankan Embassies. The cost details of the imported rice stocks are received from the respective embassies in those countries. A final decision on the cost will be decided in the next meeting of cost of living committee.
Minister Rishad Bathiudeen made these remarks at a media conference held in Colombo today. Addressing the media personnel he further said many essential goods including rice are available at nominal rates in SATHOSA outlets located islandwide. Another 50 SATHOSA outlets will be set up in near future. A discussion will be held with Internal Affairs Ministry to explore the possibilities of establishing sales outlets inside the divisional secretariats and other government offices.
