The Department of Agriculture announces that only 491,000 hectares of land has been ploughed during the Maha season. The authorities aim to harvest around 800,000 hectares in the season. Director General of the Department Dr. Rohan Wijekoon said that around 1.3 million metric tons of paddy harvest is expected in the Maha season. If the ongoing dry weather condition was not present the authorities aimed to harvest around 1.7 million metric tons of paddy.
