The 4th Asia Pacific Choir Games in Colombo

Colombo hosts The 4th Asia Pacific Choir Games this month. Presented by the Colombo Cultural Hub Trust, under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and INTERKULTUR of Germany, it is the first time an INTERKULTUR choir event will be held in South Asia. Some of the categories that these professional and amateur choirs will compete in are: Gospel, Spiritual, Jazz, Pop, Folklore, Acappella to name a few. Choirs from all over the Asia Pacific region, regardless of their present level of achievement, will have the opportunity to participate in an Open Competition.

A Unique Inter-Cultural Fusion of Choral Splendour will be showcased at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre on Thursday the 26th of October at 7.00pm.

In addition to competitive participation, choirs will have the opportunity to perform in Friendship Concerts with other choirs in public venues within Colombo. These public concerts are FREE OF CHARGE and will provide opportunities for each choir to share the musical traditions of their native land with other choirs and with the Sri Lankan public. A Concert featuring Sacred Music will be conducted at St Mary's Church Bambalapitiya on Thursday the 26th of October at 10.00am. Entrance is free. All are welcome.

“Big Bad Wolf”, the largest book fair in the world, now in Colombo.


The "Big Bad Wolf" Book Sale, billed as the world's biggest book sale, with 1.5 million books, is now open in Colombo.  It is aimed at encouraging the reading of English books at reasonable prices. This fair held at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre in Colombo, will be open 24 hours for eleven days, until the 15th of October. Special discounts ranging from  60 to 80 percent will be granted for purchases. So get yourselves ready and come book hunting with the Wolf!

The 10th European Film Festival to be held next month

The 10th European film festival will be held  from the 13th to the 17th of next month at the Tharanganee Hall of the National Film Corporation. Master piece film collections from Germany, The Netherlands, the Check Republic, Britain, Slovakia, France, Italy, Poland, Switzerland and Romania will be featured at this exhibition.

The Ministry of Finance says that the net profit earned by artistes will be exempted from tax provided that the earned profit is below 500,000 rupees.


The Jaffna international film festival will be held from today up to 20th.

Jaffna international film festival will commence today. Many films from 25 countries will be screened during this festival. The festival will be held till 20th of this month. The inaugural ceremony of this festival will be held today at 10.00 am at Jaffna Majestic Cinema Hall.


Oscar nominee to perform in Sri Lanka for India@70

To celebrate 70 years of independence of India - India@70 – the High Commission of India is organizing a special event on August 15 in Colombo, featuring performance by legendary percussion maestro Pandit Bickram Ghosh and his fusion band Rhythmscape. One of world’s greatest Tabla maestros, Pandit Bickram Ghosh has been nominated for Oscar and many Grammy awards.


Zoological garden in Dehiwela to be kept opened during night hours shortly.


A part of the Dehiwela Zoological garden will be opened for the public specially for tourists from 9th September onwards. From that day from 7 O'clock in the night to 10 O'clock the zoo will be opened according to Director General Dammika Malsingha.

City FM mobile New Year festival will be held today at Kalutara and Ratmalana Singer Mega premises. It will be held at Boralesgamuwa Singer Mega premises tomorrow. A New Year festival was held yesterday at the Singer Mega premises in Kandy last morning. Our correspondents say a large crowd including SLBC listeners was present at this festival. Many cultural and traditional events were performed at this festival. Singer Sri Lanka is sponsoring this New Year festival.
