Oscar nominee to perform in Sri Lanka for India@70

To celebrate 70 years of independence of India - India@70 – the High Commission of India is organizing a special event on August 15 in Colombo, featuring performance by legendary percussion maestro Pandit Bickram Ghosh and his fusion band Rhythmscape. One of world’s greatest Tabla maestros, Pandit Bickram Ghosh has been nominated for Oscar and many Grammy awards.

Zoological garden in Dehiwela to be kept opened during night hours shortly.

 

A part of the Dehiwela Zoological garden will be opened for the public specially for tourists from 9th September onwards. From that day from 7 O'clock in the night to 10 O'clock the zoo will be opened according to Director General Dammika Malsingha.

City FM mobile New Year festival will be held today at Kalutara and Ratmalana Singer Mega premises. It will be held at Boralesgamuwa Singer Mega premises tomorrow. A New Year festival was held yesterday at the Singer Mega premises in Kandy last morning. Our correspondents say a large crowd including SLBC listeners was present at this festival. Many cultural and traditional events were performed at this festival. Singer Sri Lanka is sponsoring this New Year festival.

The SLBC launches children’s song CD.

The SLBC launches children’s songs CD. The CD is produced to improve aesthetic values of the children. The launch will take place at 2.30 pm tomorrow at Ananda Samarakoon studio of the SLBC. Deputy Minister Karunarathne Paranawithana and Chancellor of the University of Aesthetic Studies Prof. Sanath Nandasiri will take part at the event. Dr. Praneeth Abeysundara of Sri Jayawardenapura University will deliver a special lecture.

The group song concert organized by the SLBC will be held on sunday

 

The “Gayana Geyum” group song concert presented by the Sinhala Welanda Sewaya of the SLBC to mark it’s golden jubilee anniversary celebration will be held at the BMICH tomorrow evening. The Welanda Sewaya has rendered a yeoman service to broadcast group songs in 70s for the interest of listeners. The group songs broadcast since several decades are now very much popular even at present. Seventeen groups including moonstones, Dharmaratne Sahodarayo, Three sisters will present their performance.

Two Australian classical musicians will hold a free concert in Colombo.

The Australian High Commission is to present two of Australia’s leading classical musicians in a free concert to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Australia-Sri Lanka bilateral relations. It will be held at Bishop’s College Auditorium at 7.00 pm on 24th of this month. Slava Grigoryan is a world famous classical guitarist and Sharon Draper a famous cellist will perform in this concert.
 
Slava has been the Artistic Director of the Adelaide International Guitar Festival since 2010. Sharon Draper has been the cellist with the Australian String Quartet since 2013, and has toured extensively with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Concert passes are free but limited. Passes can be collected from the Australian High Commission, 21, R.G. Senanayake Mawatha. Last minute passes may be available from 5pm on the day, at the concert venue. The 70th Anniversary is a partnership between the Australian and Sri Lankan Governments.

“Beauty and Beast”, will be staged at the University of Kelaniya today.

 

The stage drama, “Beauty and Beast”, directed by Professor of Emeritus Sunanda Mahendra will be staged at the Sri Dharmaloka Hall of University of Kelaniya at 6.30 pm today. The drama has been produced by the Department of Mass Communication as a project of teaching and learning.
