The health minister says a comprehensive dengue prevention program is implemented targeting the vulnerable Grama Niladari Divisions


Minister of Health Dr. Rajitha Senarathne said a comprehensive dengue prevention programme targeting the vulnerable Grama Niladari Divisions is being implemented at present. Minister Senarathne made these remarks while making a special statement in parliament today. Addressing the House Minister further said the government has initiated the necessary programmes in this regard. He also noted the dengue epidemic used to spread rapidly after the reseeding of flood waters.

Minister Dr. Wijedasa Rajapaksa said that the report submitted by UN special rapporteur on Sri Lanka is based on some wrong information. Minister made these remarks while addressing the parliament today. Speaking further, Minister said the rapporteur spent only seven days in Sri Lanka. Therefore, the UN representative could not have gathered the important information about the ground situation of the country.

Bangladesh has come forward to help the flood hit victims in Sri Lanka.


A cash donation by the Bangladesh Government to assist the victims of recent flood and landslides in Sri Lanka was officially handed over to President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat, today. Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina declared the cash donation. Bangladesh High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Riaz Hamidullah handed over the cheque to the President.

The Railway Drivers' Association says they will not engage in any railway strike. The Secretary to the Railway Drivers' Association Indika Dodangoda said the workers strike scheduled to be held from midnight has been called off. The decision to call off the railway strike was arrived based on the fruitful discussion held with the Secretary to the Prime Minister today. The Secretary to the Prime Minister has promised to find viable solutions to the problems face by railway drivers.

Cuban foreign minister slams Trump policy shift


Cuba's foreign minister has criticized US President Donald Trump for his decision to reinstate travel and trade restrictions on the country.Bruno Rodriguez spoke during a visit to Austria on Monday. He is the first Cuban official to respond publicly to Trump's policy shift, announced last Friday.Rodriguez said the new policy would worsen bilateral relations and hurt the Cuban people.He called Trump's speech announcing the policy a "grotesque spectacle straight from the Cold War."

Senior Attorney-at-law Sudarshana Gunawardena has assumed duty as the new Chairman of Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.

Sudarshana Gunawardena, Senior Attorney-at-law has assumed duties as the new Chairman of Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation this morning. He was appointed by Minister Mangala Samaraweera. Addressing the gathering the new Chairmen said that the media minister has entrusted him not merely a privileged post but a challenge. He requested the employees to extend their support to the fullest to overcome this challenge.
He added that he is just a member of civil society but not a member of any political party. And he appreciated the works of the former chairman Lawyer Nanda Muruththettuwegama for his renders to the SLBC.
Chairmen of the SLRC Ravi Jayawardena said both SLBC and SLRC are national resources therefore employees of these institutions should be committed to protect them.
Director General of SLBC Erananda Hettiarachchi expressed the confidence that the new chairman will be able to increase the quality of the programmes broadcast by SLBC.
Senior media director for the president Dharma sri Bandara Ekanayake was also present.

The reduction of the prices has been initiated from yesterday. Actions will be taken the private hospitals and laboratories which violate this new instruction.

Syria conflict: Russia issues warning after US coalition downs jet.

Russia has warned the US-led coalition fighting in Syria that it will view its aircraft as targets, after the US shot down a Syrian military plane on Sunday

. The coalition said the Syrian Su-22 had bombed US-backed fighters battling so-called Islamic State in Raqqa province. Russia, the Syrian government's main ally, also said it was halting communications with the US aimed at preventing such incidents. The White House says it retains the right to self-defence in Syria. Spokesman Sean Spicer said it was important to keep lines of communication open with Russia.
